TL:DR – A secret worth keeping
Marvel’s Secret Invasion is a six-episode Disney+ series that follows Nick Fury and Talos as they investigate a Skrull invasion of Earth. The series is based on the 2008 comic book storyline of the same name, and it marks the MCU’s first foray into the spy genre.
The series has received mixed reviews from critics. Some have praised its suspenseful plot, its strong cast, and its mature tone. Others have criticized its slow pace, its lack of action, and its underwhelming twists.
Here at fanofthat.com our own experience is mixed. While Secret Invasion is without doubt a well-made spy thriller with some great performances from Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, and Olivia Colman, it takes a while to get going and when it does the result isn’t as rewarding as we would have hoped. But, the series is refreshingly dark and mature for the MCU, and it tackles the the themes of trust and paranoia well. That said, there are some serious flaws. The pace is slow at times, and the lack of action may disappoint some fans.
MCU fans who are looking for a more mature and suspenseful story from the Marvel universe might find a lot to enjoy in Secret Invasion. However, if you are looking for a fast-paced action thriller, you may be disappointed. It is a well-made spy thriller with the added fun of the MCU and with some great performances, but it is not without its flaws.
